Plainfield Trucking was founded in 1958 by George Zettelmeier and Jesse Ruffalo, who sold their milk routes to purchase the company’s first three tractors. Headquartered in Plainfield, Wisconsin along the I‑39 corridor, the company has grown to more than 100 tractors and approximately 1,000 trailers.
In 1995, ownership transitioned to George’s daughter, Darlene Thurley, and Jesse’s son, Gregg Ruffalo. Together, they modernized and expanded the business. In 2016, Gregg Ruffalo sold his interest to Brandon and Shannon Ruffalo. Today, Darlene, Shannon, and Brandon continue to drive the company’s commitment to modernization, technology, and longstanding customer service as Plainfield Trucking approaches seven decades in operation.

In 1995 Darlene and Gregg successfully strengthened the company’s longstanding reputation while introducing new strategies that increased profitability, ensured year‑round driver employment, and expanded a stable base of annual hauling contracts.
In 2016, Gregg Ruffalo sold his ownership to his sons, Shannon and Brandon Ruffalo. Partnering with Darlene Thurley, they remain committed to expanding the business while upholding the company’s original values.
